Singers might know the term “on the hunt for a song”, always listening for that next magnetic tune, harmony, rhythm and message. BEAUTIFUL ALASKA qualified as a sparkling gem to pursue from the first time we heard it 25 years ago. Alaskan balladeer, Paul Roseland, had put cassettes and a songbook of his Canadian friend, Al Oster, in our path. Never before nor since have we known a song to express the depth of love we have for the Last Frontier,.
Upon finding Al’s masterpiece, Mary recorded BEAUTIFUL ALASKA, and asked her younger brother, Paul Wagner, to do the keyboard arrangement. During the summer of 2015, still attached to the song, we decided to make this lovely ballad available to the public,. We produced a video/slideshow of Mary’s recording ~ adding a collection of photos of Alaska by family & friends . Then we accompanied the photos with music which includes tunes composed by her older brother, Walt Wagner, Seattle’s greatly esteemed pianist/composer.
Our music and photo tour is meant to share some moments of living in Alaska, a land that truly changes people’s lives, whether living here or visiting for the first time.
